Activity
Research issues:
- • hydrological conditions of water management in lake areas
- • identification of natural and anthropogenic factors affecting water relations in small agricultural and forestry catchments,
- • functioning of aquatic ecosystems in lowland areas,
- • functioning, protection and renaturisation of wetlands,
- • water quality analysis and assessment,
- • dynamics of transport and accumulation of pollutants in river and lake systems,
- • use of storage reservoirs in the protection of flowing waters,
- • research on the state of the aquatic environment for the needs of ichthyofauna and development of fisheries management,
- • quantitative and qualitative research on bottom sediments in water reservoirs,
- • microclimate of forest areas,
- • climatology of north-eastern Poland,
- • natural and anthropogenic aerosols.
Research achievements:
The Department's employees actively participate in the implementation of international and national research projects. They obtained funding for 24 research grants from non-university sources, including 3 financed by the European Commission, under FP6, FP7 and Horizon 2000.
Scientific cooperation:
- As part of international projects, the Department cooperates with such institutions as: Deltares in the Netherlands, Aas University in Norway, Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Environmental Engineering and Management Department of the Polytechnic at IASI in Romania, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore and others .
- As part of the Polish-French personal exchange program POLONIUM, implemented in 2017-2018, employees of the Department of Water Management, Climatology and Environmental Management cooperate with the University of Orleans (Institute of Geography).
- Department staff cooperate with the Polish-French association from the L'Indre region from France;
- •Numerous publications and research initiatives of the Chair's employees were created in cooperation with scientists from other scientific and research institutions such as the Institute of Nature of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków, the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW, University of Life Sciences in Poznań and University of Life Sciences in Wrocław, University Life Sciences in Lublin, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Pomeranian University in Słupsk, Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW, University of Bialystok, Białystok University of Technology, as well as with entrepreneurs.
- The Department's employees carry out numerous scientific analyzes and expertise supporting state institutions. This activity consists in many years of cooperation, among others with national and landscape parks, including: the Masurian Landscape Park, the Dylewskie Landscape Park, Biebrzański National Park, the Słowiński National Park, the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Olsztyn, the Regional Directorate of State Forests and the Regional Water Management Board, the Land Melioration and Water Facilities Board in Olsztyn ( Branches in Ostróda, Bartoszyce, Mrągowo, Szczytno and others) in the field of water management in protected areas, mainly in the implementation of projects in the field of water management and restoration of aquatic ecosystems.
